First launched in 1990, this magnificent 47' yacht was built by the renowned Nautor Swan yard of Finland. Swan’s are acknowledged to be one of the best yachts built anywhere in the world. Designed by German Frers, DAKOTA (known product-wise as a Swan 46) is hull number 80 of only 106. This design is the most successful of Nautor’s 40-year history. The Swan 46 was built from 1983-1996, an average of only about 8 per year.

In 1996, Doug Ely, owner of DMYS took over as licensed skipper and manager of DAKOTA. His name became synonymous with DAKOTA around the sailing circles of the Northeast and Caribbean. Once DAKOTA was sold in 2003, DMYS was already in existence, with the DAKOTA MARINE name licensed to Doug. It made sense to take advantage of the equity in the name and continue it going forward with DMYS.

Doug had great successes with DAKOTA including winning the 650-mile Marion-Bermuda Race in 1999, as well as winning the Swan Prix d’Elegance Award at the Swan American Regatta in Newport, RI from a fleet of 50 Swans  who attended from all over the world.

DAKOTA is now with new owners in Annapolis, Maryland. However, Doug continues to receive word of many sightings by people from the Northeast to Bermuda and the Caribbean who recognize her and her close association with him.
