Based in Milford, Connecticut, serving Long Island
Sound, with availability from New England to the Caribbean.
NOTE: As of 2006, delivery availability is now on
a very limited basis due to an increase in time commitment to our core
services.
If you need to move your boat from one place to
another and don’t have the time, experience or crew to do it your
self, DMYS is a good alternative.
Our owner, Doug Ely, is a USCG-licensed 100-ton Master Captain and is
extremely knowledgeable in all ship’s systems. He is sometimes
available to be your delivery skipper. Doug has done many deliveries
between New England, Bermuda, the U.S. Eastern Seaboard and throughout
the Caribbean. He has over 150,000 miles under his keels and over
30,000 bluewater sea miles. Doug is both an accomplished racing and
cruising sailer, and was the winner of the 650-mile Marion Bermuda
Ocean Race in 1999. He understands weather systems, has crossed the
treacherous Gulf Stream dozens of times, has sailed through many gales
at sea, and has brought every yacht and crew back safely into harbor.
For those of you thinking of moving your boat to
the Caribbean this winter, if he’s available, Doug would be a
good choice for the job. He has sailed into or out of Bermuda 17 times
(the typical midway port of call), has lived in the Virgin Islands
for a number of years, and has many years experience cruising and
racing in the Caribbean. The late-October/early-November trip from the
Northeast is always a bit dicey. But, he would use a good solid crew,
good weather routing and lots of past experience to deliver your yacht
safely to it’s destination in the Caribbean.
Pricing Guidelines
Doug’s rate for deliveries varies depending
on the specifics of the trip. On average, his captain’s rate is
between $375-$450 per day. Additional delivery crew, almost always
necessary, can cost as little as $75 per day per crew, or as much as
$150 per day each, for tougher offshore deliveries. Provisions,
dockage/mooring fees, fuel, water, travel expenses, etc. are all
additional. Feel free to call and speak with Doug to discuss the
delivery, your expectations, his safety requirements, etc. at (203)
526-3972.
Doug is a non-smoker. He does not and never has
done drugs of any sort. He rarely drinks alcohol, and never drinks it
while handling a yacht. He is well groomed and educated. His crew will
adhere to his same standard. He has held a USCG Captain’s License
since 1987.
