Our owner, Doug Ely, is occasionally
available for private sailing instruction and coaching aboard
your own yacht. If you’d like to become a better sailor,
learn how to use your boat properly and sail more efficiently,
a day on the water with Doug will do wonders. You’ll be
surprised how much you can learn in a day.
A USCG-licensed 100-ton Master Captain
since 1987, Doug has sailed over 150,000 miles both coastally
and offshore, while cruising or racing for over 30 years. He
knows boats and he knows sailing. He spent many years as a charter captain in the Caribbean
and was the winning skipper of the 650-mile Marion Bermuda
Ocean Race in 1999 aboard the fabulous Swan, DAKOTA, namesake
of DMYS .
A day on the water with Doug can be one
on one, or bring the whole family so everyone learns. There is
no specific sailing course that is followed. It’s a very
informal day. No pressure. Doug will concentrate on your
personal needs—whatever you feel you need to be a better
sailor. He’ll also point out things he notices that
he feels will help you going forward.
Pricing Guidelines
The cost for a private day on the water
with Doug is $395, typically lasting 4-6 hours. Many customers
have booked him on a repeat basis, multiplying their knowledge
at an extremely fast rate. A comment heard after a day sailing
with Doug: “I learned more in 4 hours than I did in
the last 4 years!”
A list of satisfied clients—and now better
sailors—can easily be supplied. Doug is a non-smoker. He
does not and never has done drugs of any sort. He rarely drinks
alcohol, and never drinks it while handling a yacht. He is well
groomed and educated. Call him to discuss your sail-learning
needs at (203) 526-3972 or in the shop at (203) 878-4193.
